Associate Minister

Categories Bible Expires: 4th June, 2024 New Mexico

The Church:

At University Community Church (UCC) we firmly believe that “Jesus Changes Everything” and we are passionate about helping everyone, regardless of religious background, experience that for themselves. University Community Church is a church of 400+ people where every generation comes together because of Jesus to reach the next generation for Jesus. We are strategically located across the street from a major state University (NMSU) and we take seriously our mission to help spread Jesus’ name and fame to college students and young adults.

A little bit about us...

At the beginning of 2023 we finalized a name change and stepped out in faith as an independent, community church. This decision has resulted in incredible growth and places us in an exciting season of ministry. We have seen dozens of new families and young adults attend our worship gatherings and we were fortunate enough to baptize over 30 people in 2023.

Our associate minister is a key member of the ministry staff and will play a pivotal role in helping us to be good stewards of the people God has sent to us, and Lord willing, will help us reach even more people in the city. This unique role requires a dynamic, personable leader who has a heart for God, for people, and a passion to try new things and to make good things great.

A little bit about our structure...

This position will be overseen by our Lead Pastor and will work closely with the rest of the pastoral staff along with a team of dynamic volunteers. We strive to operate as one large ministry team, as opposed to each serving in our individual ministry silos and this is especially true for our associate minister. The associate minister will be tasked with helping strengthen, solidify, and maximize our current ministries along with creating several new ministries.

The Role:

University Community Church is looking for someone who wants to join an exciting and fast-paced team.  We are looking for someone who takes the mission of the church seriously but who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. We would love to hire someone who is self-motivated, easy going, doesn’t shy away from taking risks, is passionate about becoming more like Jesus, and isn’t bothered by the phrase “other duties as assigned”.  The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Spiritual Formation: Facilitate opportunities for the congregation to grow through spiritually practices and programming that helps them take what they learn on Sunday and apply it to their lives’ on Monday. This may include everything from digital resources, teaching classes, counseling and discipling our members, or putting on special events (i.e. Good Friday service, prayer and worship nights, etc.)
  • Overhauling & Overseeing Small Groups: We firmly believe that real transformation takes place in smaller, more familial groups where people can truly share life with one another.  We currently have several “LifeGroups” that meet regularly but we are struggling to create new groups and want to be more effective in helping new people get plugged into a group. Our associate minister will oversee this ministry and help us recruit and develop new leaders, along with creating material for our LifeGroups.
  • Assimilation & Connections: As we welcome new people into the church, we want to ensure they do not “fall through the cracks”. Our associate minister will help lead our efforts to move people from one level of commitment and involvement to the next. Our associate pastor will work hard to ensure that people feel connected to the church, connected to others, and ultimately connected to God.
  • Preaching & Teaching: Our associate minister will be given the opportunity to teach and preach on a regular basis, from preaching on Sunday mornings (3-6 times per year), to speaking at our mid-week college worship gathering, to teaching several adult Bible classes.
  • Innovation & Reformation: At UCC we believe that we can always do things better or more effectively.  Our associate minister will help us “maximize” our current ministries by assessing our current programming and helping us to “rethink” or “reimagine” certain programming.
  • Pastoral Care: The associate minister will help share the pastoral and shepherding needs of the church by meeting with people for counseling, encouragement, hospital visits, and assisting members in crisis.
  • Accountability & Brainstorming: Report directly to the lead pastor and meet with him regularly for accountability, encouragement, brainstorming, and development while also being under the broader authority of the Elder Team.
  • Loyalty: Be faithful and loyal to the vision and staff of UCC Church, and always protect the unity of the church by maintaining, positivity, confidentiality, and discretion.
