POSITION: Family Life Director

 

WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (Evangelical Presbyterian Church)

 

 

PURPOSE:

The role of the Family Life Director is to lead and facilitate the fellowship, discipleship and outreach ministries of Westminster Presbyterian Church (“WPC”) and facilitate the church’s local mission objectives.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Fellowship 

 

Westminster operates from the principle that “belonging precedes believing.”  As such, the fellowship of members and guests is a ministry priority to help them “feel” like family. 

 

  1. The Family Life Director will work with the staff and volunteers (including the Sunday Welcome Team) to create and maintain welcoming environments within the ministries of Westminster. This includes utilizing space, people and leading training sessions for the purpose of enhancing and maintaining a welcoming experience for congregants and guests.    

 

Discipleship

 

Westminster values intentional discipleship pathways for the family of God. 

 

  1. The Family Life Director will develop, lead and oversee comprehensive discipleship programs for adults, including Men’s Ministry; Women’s Ministry; Wednesday night programming (in partnership with the Discipleship Committee and Senior Pastor); Small groups (which will form and disband plan-fully and intermittently throughout the year); Adult Sunday School (coordinating with adult volunteers with occasional teaching); New Member Classes; and occasional ministry to our “Primetimers” retirement-aged ministry. 

 

  1. The Family Life Director will attract, develop, motivate, and retain excellent volunteer staff, with the advice and direction of the Discipleship Committee, Senior Pastor, and Session of WPC.

 

Outreach 

 

Westminster believes in prioritizing the Great Commission and trusts that there are “yet to be discovered” members of our church family. 

 

  1. The Family Life Director will learn and adopt Westminster’s outreach strategy for outreach through creating, facilitating, and leading local outreach campaigns in partnership with staff and volunteers. 

 

  1. The Family Life Director will initiate contact with members of the Lubbock community through programmatic outreach, one-on-one personal interaction and invitation, and utilization of social media strategies on a weekly basis.

 

  1. The Family Life Director will lead, serve, and support the Missions Committee of WPC in their local mission efforts (including participation in local missions). 

 

 

Additional Duties

  1. Assist in weekly worship services.  

 

Administrative Duties:  

  1. Fulfill administrative tasks such as but not limited to mailings, databases, ordering discipleship materials, facilitating travel arrangements for mission teams. 
  2. Develop and manage the program budget with the Missions Committee, Discipleship/Evangelism Committee, and the Executive Director.
  3. Maintain constant communication and membership pathway tracking strategies with prospects and members alike. 

 

Accountability and Evaluation: 

  1. Reports directly to the Senior Pastor with accountability to the Elder Board (“Session”).  
  2. Participate with all ministry staff in team building exercises to include but not limited to, weekly staff meetings, staff retreat and staff gatherings for fellowship, discipleship, and training.
  3. Performance reviews by Senior Pastor and Personnel Elder after the first 90 days and annually thereafter.

Character and Conviction:

  1. Must be committed disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, with personal maturity in leading and serving others. 
  2. Have a sense of calling to the spiritual development of persons; a heart for evangelism; possessing personal courage and perseverance in initiating new relationships (a natural “people person”); willingness to be trained and professionally developed; charisma.
  3. Adherence to Evangelical Presbyterian Church “Essentials of Faith”   
  4. Have a strong commitment to one’s own spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being.
  5. Have a strong commitment to servant leadership, working well independently, as well as part of a team.

 

Experience/ Education:

  1. Highly relational and team building skills with strong emphasis in administrating and organizing a church program.
  2. Technical skills in computer use, to include but not limited to word processing and communication through social media, Facebook, text, email, etc.
