The Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman, Texas is a growing church north of Dallas which presently has an average weekly Sunday morning attendance of 350-400. We are looking for a full-time Youth and Family Minister to work with our 6-12 grade students and their families. JOB DESCRIPTION
DISCIPLESHIP
- He is available to study with students and families to assist in making faith decisions.
- Actively encourages spiritual leadership in students and encourages students and
families to be actively involved in all areas of the church. - He works with students to develop and encourage a life of discipleship and faith centered
decisions. - Pursues and develops strong, healthy relationships with all students and parents.
- Provides resources to parents to assist them in faithfully leading their families.
YOUTH EDUCATION
- Develops and leads high quality Bible classes on Sunday morning and Wednesday
evening. - Recruits and trains others to help teach high quality Bible classes on Sunday morning
and Wednesday evenings.
Works with church members, other ministers, and elders to develop a well-rounded,
spiritual Bible education curriculum. - Plans appropriate activities and devotional programs to support the students’ spiritual
growth. - Maintains availability to students as they struggle with individual Bible passages or
concepts.
COMMUNICATION
- Establishes and maintains open means of communication with students, parents, church
leaders, and the congregation. - Provides content for weekly church emails, bulletins, and announcements; develops
content for the church website and app. - Actively maintains appropriate social media accounts.
- Regularly meets with and updates the Youth Ministry Support Team.
- Regularly meets with elders and ministry staff.
- Actively fosters a culture of unity and openness with the youth group, other ministers,
elders, and the congregation.
ADMINISTRATION
- Coordinates the development and implementation of a youth program that aligns with the
mission and vision of Western Heights Church of Christ. - Develops and maintains the annual youth ministry budget in coordination with the
finance ministry and church leadership. - Coordinates the Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) program with the LTC Leadership
Team, including locating event coach volunteers and travel logistics. - Coordinates and takes part in specific youth events, such as camps, mission events, and
service projects. - Works with the elders and other ministers to develop and maintain a summer youth
internship program. - Maintains appropriate and regular office hours.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Maintains a level of community involvement and outreach with area youth events and
organizations. - Makes hospital and home visits as needed.
- Preaches on a fill-in basis as needed.
- Seeks continuing education through traditional education means, seminars, conferences,
or personal study programs.
Job Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who exhibits the following
qualities:
- One who loves the Lord and works towards discipleship in his
life. - One who has a deep passion to share his love of the Lord with
others, especially the young. - One who values unity in the youth group and church and is a
strong team player. - One who works to bring a level of joy and positivity to the youth
program. - One who can create an engaging, energetic classroom
environment while maintaining a level of structure and purpose. - One who is willing to bridge barriers between diverse groups,
such as different cultures, socioeconomic groups, etc. - One who is a functional administrator capable of maintaining a
budget, the youth schedule, and travel logistics for missions,
camps, etc. - One who is or has recently served in a youth ministry role
(youth minister, youth internship, or interim youth program
leadership position). - One who is currently an active member of a Church of Christ.
- We also prefer that the candidate:
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in ministry, Bible, or related field or
has successfully completed a course of study from a biblical
studies program associated with the Churches of Christ. - Is bilingual (Spanish) or willing to learn Spanish.
- Values singing in worship experiences with teens.
