Public Relations Unpaid Internship

The Public Relations Intern will assist the Public Relations Coordinator in promoting the mission, events, and programs of Children’s Home of Lubbock through a variety of media channels. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit communications, social media, graphic design, media relations, and publication production.
Flexible for summer school schedules; requires approximately 10–15 hours per week.

Job Requirements

  • Social Media & Digital Content:
    • Assist with content creation for CHOL’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
    • Design graphics, flyers, and digital assets using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Help schedule posts and track engagement.
    • Ensure all digital content adheres to CHOL’s brand standards and voice.
  • Publications:
    • Support the development and production of the quarterly external magazine, including gathering stories, writing content, and assisting with layout and design.
    • Assist with creating and distributing the monthly internal staff newsletter.
    • Ensure publication materials are consistent with CHOL’s brand guidelines.
  • Media Relations:
    • Help draft press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials.
    • Research and expand CHOL’s list of local news, radio, and community media contacts.
    • Assist in building stronger relationships with media outlets.
  • Archiving & Historical Projects:
    • Help digitize and organize old photographs and historical documents for the organization’s archives.
    • Assist with creating content that highlights CHOL’s history and impact.
  • General Support:
    • Participate in brainstorming sessions for campaigns, events, and storytelling projects.
    • Assist with additional writing, editing, and graphic design tasks as needed.
    • Attend occasional special events or activities to gather content or assist with media coverage.
