Full Time Childrens Minister - Early Childhood Emphasis

Summary: Monterey Church of Christ seeks two highly collaborative Children’s Ministers to serve children birth through 5th grade and their families. This role's focus area is Early Childhood (birth thru preschool). Both roles carry equal weight and responsibility, with each minister focusing on a developmental emphasis area: Early Childhood or Elementary. While both will share leadership across the ministry, one minister will also be identified as the overall coordinator and vision leader of the Children’s Ministry, determined during the hiring process based on experience, gifts, and fit.
Shared Responsibilities:
- Serve as a public face and advocate for Children’s Ministry within the church body.
- Welcome new families and shepherd their connection process at Monterey.
- Cultivate meaningful relationships with and between children and families.
- Design and organize family events, seasonal programs, and special nights (e.g., Pumpkin Trail, Merge Retreat, Summit Camp).
- Coordinate transitional ministries strategically (Early Childhood → Elementary, Preteen → Teen).
- Maintain safety protocols and check-in systems.
- Attend staff meetings, collaborate with other ministry areas, and support church-wide events.
- Contribute to calendar planning, budgeting, and program development.
- Recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Distinct Responsibilities:
- Take primary responsibility for Sunday and Wednesday programs, curriculum planning, and classroom support for nursery through preschool.
- Lead preparation of teaching materials and logistics for Children’s Worship (Early Childhood).
- Provide direct support and communication to parents of young children.
- Ensure smooth transitions for families entering and moving through Early Childhood programs.
Professional Qualifications:
- College degree and preferred 3+ years of experience in children’s ministry or related field.
- Strong leadership, administrative, and relational skills.
- Passion for early childhood spiritual development.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and support volunteers.
- Flexible, dependable, creative.
- Collaborative, team-first mindset.
