Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Intern will participate in a structured, rotational Internship Program designed to provide exposure to HR operations in a government setting. Interns will complete four 4-week rotations within an assigned track (Fall or Spring), working directly with designated Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) under the coordination of a centralized Program Coordinator.

The internship is designed to be both educational and practical, providing guided observation, hands-on assignments, and exposure to core HR functions while supporting departmental operations.

Essential Duties

• Participate in a 16-week rotational internship program consisting of four 4-week rotations aligned with the assigned track (Fall: HR Operations & Compliance Administration; Spring: HR Strategy, Systems & Workforce Planning). 
• Observe and assist Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within assigned focus areas to gain exposure to HR processes, reporting, compliance, workforce planning, and employee support functions. 
• Complete assigned rotation-based tasks, including research, data collection, documentation review, report preparation under supervision. 
• Assist with employee engagement initiatives, recruitment outreach, compliance reporting preparation, wellness initiatives, and workforce support activities. 
• Support departmental operations when needed while maintaining primary focus on assigned rotation objectives. 
• Complete at least one capstone project per assigned track, aligned with a selected rotation focus area. 
• Maintain confidentiality of documents, employees, and public interaction with the department. 
• Answer department telephones, greet visitors, and provide information and referrals to appropriate staff. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent and pursuing a secondary degree in human resources, business, public administration, political science, or related field. Must be able to commit to a 16-week internship track during the Fall (Late August – Mid December) and Spring (Mid-January – Early May) semesters. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with employees at all levels. Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage rotational tasks and project deadlines effectively. Attention to detail and accuracy in administrative and reporting tasks. Proficient computer skills and ability to learn HR systems. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a team-oriented and structured learning environment. Basic understanding of HR principles and practices or related coursework preferred.
