POSITION DESCRIPTION
The WPC Communities Director provides ministry to the greater Lubbock community with an understanding that "belonging precedes believing." As such, the Communities Director's role is to introduce prospects to WPC's ministries through outreach edification events (offsite) that nurture relationships with WPC and lead toward an orientation to WPC programs and events. Additionally, the Communities Director's efforts will lead to the growth of WPC Gospel Communities and guide prospects through the WPC membership process. The Community Director will report to the Senior Pastor.
The four key roles for this position include:
- Lead and manage outreach exposure opportunities.
- Lead and manage outreach equipping and edification opportunities.
- Transition prospects from events to ongoing engagement.
- Management and administration of gospel communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and Manage Outreach Exposure Opportunities
WPC’s outreach events occur offsite at various locations throughout the city with the select invitation of individuals based on the identification of common concerns. Responsibilities include:
- Manage and lead bi-monthly outreach events (offsite).
- Implement and train WPC staff and volunteer teams in outreach methodology.
- Coordinate and follow-up with all WPC prospects.
- Perform ongoing maintenance of outreach prospect database.
- Communicate and disseminate training opportunities to the WPC congregation and outcomes of outreach events.
II. Lead and Manage Outreach Equipping and Edification Opportunities
WPC's edification events are forums for prospective members in which subject matter that is valuable to select individuals is taught and discussed (e.g., the "Financially Freed Up Kids" Forum for parents who desire the tools to teach their children about financial responsibility). Responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage bi-monthly edification events (offsite)
- Perform ongoing maintenance pf prospect database.
- Coordinate and follow-up with all prospects.
- Implement and train WPC staff and volunteer teams in edification methodology.
- Communicate and disseminate training opportunities to the WPC congregation and outcomes of edification events.
III. Transition Prospects from Events to Ongoing Engagement
Placement of Prospects and Members into Gospel Communities
- Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, develop an overall “next step” strategy to adapt and use for all outreach exposure events, inviting prospects to serve and connect in deeper ways.
- Identify the needs of prospective members and assign them to Gospel Communities to match their spiritual gifts and needs.
- Follow up with new Gospel Community members to ensure their transition into the small group setting.
Prospective Member Orientation
- Schedule, coordinate, and follow-up with the orientation of all prospective WPC members
- Maintain data files (“carry the file”) on all prospects and report to the Senior Pastor their progress.
Membership Process
- Assist the senior leadership in the process of moving prospects to membership.
- Give prospects a tour of WPC facilities and ministries.
- Introduce prospects to WPC staff.
IV. Management and Administration of Gospel Communities
WPC Gospel Communities are small groups in which the values of the early are lived out relationally. These values are spelled-out in Acts 2:42: “They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Community Director responsibilities include:
- Create safe, healthy, and positive Gospel Community environments that build engagement and belonging for all members of the Church.
- Assist in the creation of updated processes and evaluation of existing functions designed to cultivate the Gospel Community experience.
- Provide leadership and support to Gospel Communities, their gatherings, and events.
- Serve as a direct point of contact with all Gospel Community leaders.
- Solicit feedback and maintain regular communication with Gospel Community leaders to ensure each leader feels well supported and appreciated as a vital member of the ministry.
- Serve as a liaison for prayer requests, fellowships, and other special events and worship opportunities throughout the Church.
- Develop a culture in which Gospel Community leaders identify and develop future leaders within their own groups to multiply and grow the Gospel Community at WPC.
- Ensure the timely follow-up of all contacts including conversations, phone calls, emails, and social media contacts.
- Maintain high visibility during weekend services with a friendly, outgoing, and personal presence to encourage new Gospel Community membership.
Gospel Community Leader Training and Development
- Implement a leadership development strategy to build, advise, encourage, and resource Gospel Community leaders using best practices for small groups in church curriculum.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Gospel Community leaders through the development and implementation of a quarterly training.
- Communicate weekly with Gospel Community leaders and provide materials and assistance as needed.
Data Collection
- Train Gospel Community leaders on how to report attendance.
- Track Gospel Community participation each week
- Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for Gospel Community growth.
Reporting to Senior Pastor
- Report to the Senior Pastor at WPC new potential leadership for future Gospel Communities.
- Report Gospel Community attendance to the Senior Pastor as requested.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in biblical studies or related field.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in an Outreach Ministry with a background in small group ministry development and leadership.
- Must demonstrate a close and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Have a strong interest in Christian formation and growth with a passion for nurturing the Christian faith of others.
- Must be organized and possess a high degree of comfort working within a growing, changing, and dynamic team environment.
- Must make WPC their church home and participate in the life of gospel communities.
- Engaging recruiter: Highly relational and able to warmly connect with volunteers, staff, and partners.
- Demonstrated passion for the global mission of the church and for the members of the local church to be intentionally engaged in local outreach.
- Strong team player that can bring their very best to a staff and volunteer team.
- Networker: well-connected to people and ministries.
- Be a high-capacity person, able to handle a large diversity of details and projects, solving problems and making changes as needed.
- Insightful communicator: keen sense of what needs to be communicated to others for growth opportunities and the skill to communicate well (personal, spiritual, or otherwise).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality, poise, and tact.
- Must be skilled at teaching in small group settings.
